Going from 50-Amp to 30-Amp RV Power: What You Can Run

3/30/2026

The biggest difference between 30-amp and 50-amp RV power is capacity. A 50-amp RV has two 120V power legs, while a 30-amp RV has one, meaning everything shares the same power.

Don’t run multiple high-power appliances at the same time.

Common Power Hogs

  • Air conditioner

  • Microwave

  • Water heater (electric)

  • Space heater

  • Hair dryer

What Works on 30-Amp

  • One A/C + lights + TV = ✅

  • A/C + microwave = ❌ (usually trips breaker)

Tips

  • Use propane for water heater/fridge

  • Stagger appliance use

  • Add a soft start for A/C

Bottom Line

30-amp RV living works great—you just need basic power management.
